How office and site managers can create a workculture that is safer, more tolerant and inclusive – and enjoy a business benefit for doing so. In this session we look at the business case for building a better work culture, and how to do it.


How designers and constructors can work with prefab to benefit their project. We will explore the different methods of prefabrication, how to engage and what role DfMA and BIM play in successful project delivery.


Biophilic Design has become a hot topic in recent years, but is it just a 2022 Pinterest mega trend or timeless good design. Join our panel as we explore the basics of biophilic design, the impact of Covid on it's growth and what we hope to see in the future.

We're spending more time in our homes than ever before. Our homes now need to support sleep, work, health, entertainment, fitness and socialising. We discuss how residential developers are changing design to meet new consumer demands.


After the introduction of the Australian Modern Slavery Act in 2019, we take a look at the common hotspots throughout the property and construction sector, and what businesses are doing to respond and mitigate the risk of modern slavery.


An overview of the Passive House standard, it’s relevance in Australia as a method for designing and building high-performance buildings that are comfortable, healthy, and energy efficient. Case studies of local and international Passive House building projects.


The deadline for compliance with the NCC-2016 fire testing was the 1st May 2019.
Now, more than two years later, many of these changes and their impact on the BCA are still not fully understood by architects, designers, builders, contractors and even building surveyors, and this is being exploited by some suppliers.

In this session, we will cover:
1. Fire Compliance for Internal Linings, including testing procedures & how to determine Fire Group Ratings as per Spec C1.10.
2. Non-Combustible Linings for exterior walls of Class A and B buildings as per Spec C1.9.


This panel discussion, headed by BDAA CEO Chris Knierim and featuring a trio of elite design industry panelists, will answer the pressing questions of " Where is our industry currently at with sustainability regulations? Is it enough? What would we change/improve? And how can we get there? "

This session will highlight how FSC certified products are creating positive outcomes for the built environment and our global response to the threat of climate change. The panel, led by FSC Deputy Chair Jon Dee, will discuss the importance of innovation and integrity in the supply chain, the potential to improve outcomes with engineered timber, current issues of the supply and demand for timber, the value of our partnership with the LFIA to achieve sustainability outcomes and the importance of recognising the true value of forests.

This presentation will show why the circular economy is so important in the built environment. We’ll outline the key principles underlying circular design, and show why, as a biological nutrient, wood is inherently circular. We’ll review other jurisdictions that have adopted the circular economy to guide policy decisions, and introduce Planet Ark’s Circular Economy Hub. Australian mass timber projects will be used to highlight the benefits of dematerialisation and how to design for disassembly at end of life.
